ELSA and Social, Emotional & Mental Health
Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA)
At Buckhurst Hill Community Primary School, we are committed to supporting the emotional wellbeing of all our pupils. Our Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) programme provides targeted support for children who may be experiencing social, emotional or behavioural difficulties that impact their learning.
ELSA sessions are delivered in a safe, supportive environment and are tailored to meet the individual needs of each child. Areas of support may include developing emotional awareness, building self-esteem, managing feelings, improving social skills and supporting friendships, bereavement loss etc.
Our trained ELSAs, Ellie and Nicola, work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to ensure that support is appropriate and effective. Sessions are designed to help children understand and regulate their emotions, develop resilience and build positive relationships.
If you would like further information about ELSA, please contact Nicola or Ellie via the school office admin@bhcps.efspt.org
Social, Emotional and Mental Health
It may be the case that children do not require specific ELSA intervention or we are unable to offer this immediately - in this case we offer check ins for the children with regards to Social and Emotional Mental Health.
One of our fellow Trust schools has compiled a library of online videos of texts which offer great signposting with regards to Social Emotional and Mental Health:
